Report on WORKSHOP ON "HUMAN RIGHTS" by MANITHAM-TRICHY

A workshop on HUMAN RIGHTS was organised in TRICHY by the Trichy MANITHAM team in association with SNEHAM on Dec. 10, 2007.

This workshop was organised at CAUVERY COLLEGE FOR WOMEN A/C SEMINAR HALL for the PG students of social work, Human Rights and rehab. science of various colleges in Trichy exclusively the final year students.

The students were provided with a file containing Handbills, documents and other printed material , all related with Human rights, child labour, bonded labour, constitution, UN declaration , a hand book on RTI ,etc along with a notepad and a pen.

The workshop was inaugurated by the vice-principal and the HOD of social work Dr.S. SANKARI by 10:20 am and the first session was handled by sr. advocate Mr. MARTIN with power point presentation and after that a tea break.

The second session was handled by Mr. k. CHANDRASEKAR , the Director of DEW, an NGO working on bobded laour issue. After his session , with a preface of Mr. PAUL GUNA . our MANITHAM Child Labour video show was shown.

After the lunch break, the interractive session was handled by sr. Advocate Mr. J KENNEDY and our MANITHAM member advocate Mr. LEO ROZARIO, which really was an interesting and informative one.

The felicitation ceremony started at 4:20 pm , when the chief guest Hon'ble Addl. District Judge MR. V. RAMAMURTHY arrived.

The secretary of the college and our Trichy dist. Manitham secretary Mr. THANDESAN spoke. The chief guest addressed the gathering and them asked us to take an oath against Human Rights violations and then distributed the participation certificates. All the guests were honoured by the college, Manitham and Sneham.

Vote of thanks was delivered by the co-ordinator of MANITHAM and the managing trustee of SNEHAM Mr. PAUL GUNA LOGANATH .

This works was really informative and the number of participants were 160 students excluding the staff and manitham members.

This workshop was well covered by press which included DINAMALAR, DINAKARAN, THE HINDU, DINAMANI ETC.
